Senior Animator, Starz Animation, Toronto

Starz Animation, Toronto, one of Canada’s largest 3D Animation Studios, is currently in production on Miramax Film’s major animation movie, “Gnomeo and Juliet”. Directed by Kelly Asbury and with music and lyrics by legendary songwriting team ELTON JOHN & BERNIE TAUPIN, this animated feature will be released in 2011.

Position Description: Senior Animator
For: Gnomeo and Juliet

Reports to Supervising Animator and Head of Animation
Manage animation team – including assigning shots, ensuring quotas and deadlines are met and Director’s vision is adhered to
Ensure that quality of animation meets standards set out by Director
Liaise and consult with supervisors of other departments to discuss workflow and issues that arise
Ensure that editorial cut meets the vision of the Director
Assign work to animators, keeping in mind specific strengths and weaknesses
Direct and instruct animators on character performance and timing
Ensure continuity across entire show
Required to complete assigned animation sequences
Experience Required:
Experience leading an animation team on CGI animated feature
Proven Animation skills
Strong understanding of animation timing, acting and storytelling techniques
Expert knowledge of Maya
Demonstrated success at meeting tight deadlines
Planning and management skills
Clear communication style, both written and verbal
Ability to motivate animation team at all times

About the Film
Gnomeo and Juliet -- distributed by Miramax Films -- is an animated picture directed by Kelly Asbury (Shrek 2), produced by Baker Bloodworth, David Furnish, Steve Hamilton-Shaw and with songs by Elton John and Bernie Taupin. Now in production.
