FX Artist, Starz Animation, Toronto


Starz Animation, Toronto, one of Canada’s largest 3D Animation Studios, is currently in production on Miramax Film’s major animation movie, “Gnomeo and Juliet”. Directed by Kelly Asbury and with music and lyrics by legendary songwriting team ELTON JOHN & BERNIE TAUPIN, this animated feature will be released in 2011.

Position Description: FX Artist
For: Gnomeo and Juliet
Reports to Head of FX
Position Description and Requirements:

The FX Artist helps in the design and implementation of special effects for a feature length animated film.
FX production experience.
Intermediate to advanced experience in all aspects of 3D production is a plus.
Experience developing and designing FX water preferred.
Experience with Maya particles/dynamics and particle expressions are a must.
An understanding of Maya fluids a plus.
Knowledge of any scripting language a plus.
Working knowledge of cloth dynamics (Ncloth and/or Syflex) and fluid dynamics (Realflow) is a definite plus.
A thorough understanding of compositing principles (preferably using Fusion) a definite plus.

March Entertainment is looking to hire several experienced Maya animators for an exciting new Choose your Own Adventure movie starting in Toronto in April, 2009.

Requirements:

- A demo reel showcasing feature quality animation work
- 3D series or feature experience a must
- Ability to meet deadlines and work within a team
- Degree or certificate in classical animation, film or related field or equivalent production experience
- MUST be an Ontario resident as of Dec. 31, 2008 and Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada.

Summary:
The Lead, 3D Artist, is a well-rounded 3D Artist with professional experience in multiple areas of production. They have a genuine enthusiasm and interest in mechanical models with an emphasis on animation and visual storytelling. He/she has a high level of knowledge with regards to the art production cycle and is responsible for efficiently deriving accurate effort estimates for 3D content jobs and proposals. The Lead, 3D Art & Animator is the main contributor to the artistic vision of the product and is responsible for developing prototypes for the art team to follow.
The Lead, 3D Artist supports and maintains communication between the NGRAIN Art & Animation Teams, client Subject Matter Experts (SME), and 3rd party partners. The lead maintains responsibility for managing and maintaining art resources and art assets, is a problem solver; is able to plan, schedule and anticipate problems before they happen, and mentors artists and animators under his/her supervision.
The lead must have a strong technical aptitude for 3D modeling tools and animation technologies with a strong emphasis on prototyping and is able to generate new and fresh ideas.

Roles and Responsibilities:
•Manages and coordinates 3D art & Animation assets and resources
•Effectively mentors 3D Artists and Animators to maintain on-time and on-spec schedules
•Creates processes and prototypes to advance efficiencies in 3D Art production and daily workflow
•Applies expert knowledge in 3D Modeling and animating to aid in project proposals, effort estimates and media analysis
•Travels to client sites for the purpose of requirements and reference gathering of project data including, but not limited to, digital photographs and video, published technical documentation and client created lesson plans
•Liaises with clients to define project specific 3D Model LDO and LOC requirements and to develop animations from client concepts
•Creates storyboards that depict the script and narrative, drawing in 2D to create sketches/illustrations;
•Creates and edits animatics and animation sequences
•Visualizes and conceptualizes object movement to drive the overall visual quality of the product
•Develops the timing and pace of object movement during the sequence of images and ensuring the follow the script descriptions;
•Works with creative director to compose the various layers of animation in order to produce finished piece
•Works to production deadlines and meets client requirements

Qualifications
•Excellent spoken and written language skills, and is an excellent communicator
•A minimum of two to three years post secondary art education
•Five plus years experience in modeling and animation
•A specialist in two or more modeling and two or more texturing techniques
•An expert in the use of 2D paint package
•An expert in the use of 3D creation software
• Working technical knowledge of software packages such as Flash, 3D Studio Max, Maya

3D Modeller/Texture Artist, Longtail Studios, Quebec City

Longtail Studios, in Quebec City, is looking for a 3D Modeller/Texture Artist.
Responsibilities:
  • Model characters in high polygon, low polygon and in game resolutions.
  • Create textures maps
Qualifications:
  • BA desired , 2 years experience in the videogame industry, and at least 1 shipped title.
  • Attention to high quality anatomical detail
  • Strong traditional art skills
  • Solid understanding of art fundamentals to include color theory, light, shade and form
  • Can work in a variety of styles.
  • Highly experienced in 3d max.
  • An understanding of computer graphic fundamentals and video game art production pipelines
  • An understanding of Photoshop and programs such as Zbrush or Mudbox
  • Experience in several aspects of videogame art production to include concept work, modeling, texturing, and shading.
  • Able to meet deliverables and drive your work to completion within specified timelines
  • An understanding of rigging and animation principles.
  • Great communication skills both written and verbal
  • Can work cross functionally in many areas without being constrained by your job function
  • A collaborative work ethic
  • Must currently be a resident of Canada
